No-phone sunset walks pros - lots of space for mind wandering, clearing the mind, noticing small things, beautiful skies

No-phone sunset walks cons - a group of lads may throw a water balloon at you, apparently there are still youth outside being little twits

I dodged the water balloon that was lobbed at me head, which left me feeling pretty fit and agile. Maybe there's hope for my brain yet?

All in all, today was delightful. I had my breakfast slowly, walked to the post office to send the postcards I wrote yesterday.

I actually really enjoy the whole process of sending a postcard. I love writing them and then going to send them is an excuse for a walk and maybe to chat to a nice person at the post office. I'm quite bad at responding to messages on my phone because it just ends up feeling more like admin than connection. Post cards make the act of a long message feel enjoyable, plus when you're writing them you're not adding to your screen time or staring into a blue light.

I wondered around the History of Science museum, saw a really cool periodic table mug which I will be buying as soon as I have the funds for such treats. Is it perhaps time to relearn the song? The kind of things I could spend my time doing instead of doomscrolling..

I noticed all the times I pulled out my phone intending to go on instagram and appreciated the opportunity to fill that time with other things - mind wandering, writing, reading, calling a friend.

I felt regulated and entirely relaxed. Nothing has changed in my life in terms of circumstance but the stress that has been bubbling away inside for weeks seemed to have been lifted.

Was it actually social media scrolling that was making me feel stressed?

Anyway, this is your sign to send someone a postcard.

lots of love

Elle
